This crochet bead bracelet is made from cotton yarn, glass beads and jewelry findings handmade of wire.
The piece is long enough to wear five times around your wrist or once as a very long necklace around the neck. You can also wear it wrapped twice around the neck as a shorter necklace.
The technique used in this crochet bead bracelet is the same whether you
make the necklace in yarn or wire. The biggest trick is that you need
to have the beads on the yarn before you start to crochet.
Here is the Crochet Beaded Necklace page where you can see how to crochet with wire and beads. The chain making and crocheting of the beads into the crochet is exactly the same. The tools, starting point and finishing is different. ( If you want to learn more about crocheting with wire go the the wire crochet page. )
A good tip is to rather have way more beads on the yarn (or wire if you do it with wire) than what you need in total.
You have nothing to lose if you have too many beads on the yarn. It really is bad news if you have too few beads on the yarn and you realize it when you near the end of your necklace. It means that you have to start all over again.
The button I used to create the closure for this necklace is made out of copper wire. On the one side of the closure is the button and on the other side is a crocheted loop that fits snugly around the button.
I used soft wire and bent it into a swirl leaving a hole in the center to create the button.
I was halfway with the bracelet / necklace when I realized I had to start the necklace over.
No, I had enough beads on the yarn but I decided half way that it was
going to work best if I crochet the wire button-closure into place
before I start the necklace and end with a loop for the other side of
You need to finish your findings completely if you make your own wire findings to use with yarn projects before you start to crochet.
That includes the patina that you wish to apply. Once the findings are attached to the jewelry piece you cannot hammer, color or clean the findings.
